Center Pet Pharmacy to Host Microchip Clinic
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grain sized Microchip Implant Helps Ensure Pets That Are Lost or Stolen Make There Way Back Home
Washington, D.C. (March, 2008) - Nearly one out of every five dogs in the United States will be lost or stolen this year, according to statistics from the National Dog Registry. Once obtained as sidekicks for kids, companion animals are more popular now with a growing number of demographics who care for them as they would a family member. Dog license laws are created to help return lost dogs to their owners, but unfortunately, they don't always work because when animals are lost, many times they also lose their collars and tags.
The problem for most owners is that they do not expect to lose their pet, and when they do, it becomes their worst nightmare. Think back to the number of signs that we have all seen in our own neighborhoods. That 'LOST PET' sign is a reminder that something went wrong. The unfortunate part of this is that thousands of unidentified pets are lost and may never be recovered. Some fall victim to theft, others are displaced during hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. Those 'Lost Pet' signs serve as a constant reminder that someone is missing a beloved pet. Our pets deserve better.
Washington's favorite pet pharmacy and boutique for companion pet medication and accessories, at 4900 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., wants to help make sure that more dogs make their way home. From 1PM to 3PM, Sunday April 20th, The Washington Animal Rescue League will conduct a "Microchip Clinic". At Center Pet Pharmacy it has been our mission to make pet owner's lives easier whether it is by helping find the best way to medicate their pets or recovering lost pets.
With an embedded microchip, agencies are able to scan the chip, and help get a lost or stolen pet back to its owner, "Without the chip, chances of finding a pet are much less likely." The chip identification number is stored in a tiny transponder that can be read through the dog's skin by a scanner.
At the Center Pet Pharmacy Microchip Clinic, a Veterinarian will place a microchip - a tiny transponder the size of a grain of uncooked rice that is implanted with an injector - under the loose skin of a dog's shoulder. Once in place, the owner's contact information is permanently available on a regional or national database so an agency can read the chip information and the pet can be returned home quickly and safely.
Embedding the chip is safe, relatively pain free and only takes about 5 minutes, including filling out the necessary paperwork. The procedure for the first 15 pets will be free of charge. The cost for the consultation and procedure is $25; all proceeds will benefit the Washington Animal Rescue League, in keeping with Center Pet Pharmacy's philanthropic philosophy. Spots are limited and owners can register for the event by calling Center Pet Pharmacy 888-260-0801 or via email at kkramm@centerpetpharmacy.com.

About The Washington Rescue League
The Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) is an animal protection group like no other. Its newly renovated facility incorporates the best design concepts from shelters around the world and takes them a step further to set a new global standard for the humane care of homeless and abused animals. Every detail of the dog dens, cat condos, and puppy pads was designed from the animals point of view to promote healing and maximally enhance the animals physical and emotional wellbeing as they recover from past traumas and await adoption. The renovation also expanded the capacity of the shelter. It now comfortably houses up to 400 animals and is one of the largest shelters on the East Coast. WARL's full-service Medical Center has been enlarged and renovated, too. It still provides affordable veterinary care for shelter animals and the pets of low-income guardians, but now treats public animals as well.
