Now and Then - How Caring For Our Pets Has Changed
Center Pet Pharmacy Celebrates its 43rd Anniversary

How has pet care changed in the last half century? Center Pet Pharmacy just celebrated its 43rd anniversary and recognizes the many pet related changes since 1964. Once obtained as sidekicks for kids, companion animals are more popular now with a growing number of demographics who care for them as they would a family member. Over the past 43 years Center Pet Pharmacy has adapted to the many changes and advancements in pet medications and has helped make life easier for pets as well as their owners. 50 years ago who thought they would see a dog that was left with a 12 million dollar estate, now everything has changed... living a dog's life

September 7, 2007 -- There is probably no better gauge to illustrate the huge change in the way we treat our pets now as opposed to how we viewed and treated our pets almost half a century ago then looking at Center Pet Pharmacy. Center Pet Pharmacy is a family owned business that just celebrated its 43rd anniversary. For almost half a century Center Pet Pharmacy has been servicing medications to veterinarians and helping pet owners alike take the best care of their favorite companions.

It was 1964, Lyndon Johnson was president, the Beatles were the craze, the Mustang was introduced and social change and civil rights were on the horizon. Much has changed over the years and Center Pet Pharmacy has changed with the times. When Center Pet Pharmacy got started people were "owners" of their pets and "living a dog's life" or "sleeping in the doghouse" was not meant as a compliment. Reality was not being carried around in Paris Hilton's purse, dressed in Gucci or being left a 12 million dollar estate by Leona Helmsley. Reality was being left out in the wet muddy yard for the day and sleeping in the outdoor doghouse at night. This was commonplace as to the way pets lived almost 50 years ago. Once obtained as sidekicks for kids, companion animals are more popular now with older couples whose children have left home, single professionals, and couples who are having children later in life. What connects these different demographic groups is a penchant to having extra time and resources to spend. Today Center Pet Pharmacy compounds the latest in compliance solutions and still delivers medications to veterinarians and their clients (the best of both worlds), exemplifying that service is a real commodity in the lifestyles of today's pet owners. Recent studies have shown that many people today perceive their pets to have human problems and feelings such as depression and anxiety. A study done by the HNK Consultation group showed that pet owners get everything from designer clothes to psychoanalysis for their pet's happiness and wellbeing. Customized medications fall right in line with this.

Center Pet Pharmacy has mastered techniques such as changing solid forms of medication into liquid compounded preparations in your pet's choice of 16 different pet friendly flavors from Crispy Bacon to Salmon Steak, making it easy and painless to administer medicine to your beloved pet. Most pets will even lick the flavored medication right off of a paper plate and enjoy it. Center Pet Pharmacy now offers transdermal medication, medicated chew tablets, capsules in strengths that are not commercially available, sterile ophthalmics and holistic and homeopathic drugs. Center Pet Pharmacy is here to accommodate the pet, the pet owner and the veterinarian.

Many people are willing to forego these amenities because they have been led to believe that it is cheapest to get their pet's medications from on-line pharmacies that have never even seen their pet, but when shipping and handling are factored in it doesn't come out any cheaper. Center Pet Pharmacy can meet or exceed any low price that other pharmacies offer. Many times the shipping alone can take 4 or 5 days while your pet's medication stays in a very hot or very cold storage facility. Temperature and storage conditions can affect the efficacy of a medication when the client receives it.

Our pharmacists and staff are 100% dedicated to meeting the needs of our clients and offer assistance to all pets with a 24 hour hotline. In case of an adverse reaction or an allergy, there is someone to talk too immediately and instruct you what to do. This kind of service is rare find today even amongst the human population.

All meds provided are inspected by the FDA and are manufactured and packaged according to US Government Regulations. Therefore, all of our products meet optimal safety standards.

Good old fashioned service is part of what Center Pet Pharmacy provides. Deliveries are made directly to the pet owner or veterinarian - whichever is preferred and there is always a quick turnaround time of one to two days. There is even in store pickup if desired.

Studies show that only 10% of cat owners and 30% of dog owners succeed in medicating their pets correctly. At Center Pet Pharmacy it has been our mission to make it easier for the pet owners to medicate their pets which boosts compliance to over 90% equaling happier pets, less trauma and a quicker recovery.

We assist the veterinarian to help them provide optimal service to their clients by working as an adjunct to services that they already offer giving them a wider variety of ways to help their pets.

What We Will Do For Our Pets

What would you do for your pet? According to a study done by HNK Consultation many people today have the distinct perception that their pets have human problems and feelings such as separation anxiety and depression. We give them everything from designer clothes and perfumes to psychoanalysis and braces to customized medication that keeps them living longer and helps them recover more easily and quicker.

August 30, 2007 -- A recent HNK study revealed that the pet industry has hit an all time high. Victoria Beckham, Matt Dillon, Aston Kutcher, Elton John and Kate Hudson all have pets sporting Doggie Chic by Corey and other famous designers such as Gucci, Fendi, Hermes and Juicy Couture, organic foods, perfumes and hotels, braces for crooked teeth, and pearly necklaces. Pet owners are becoming more and more demanding and will not put up with poor quality products, or shoddy service for their animals. The research of 155 pet owners across the country, asked the question "If there were a store that had all these many conveniences and was less expensive then other on-line pharmacies with a real person always there 24/7 to speak to, would this appeal to you? The results were overwhelming and showed that this concept would appeal to the majority of those polled. They would also like to have the establishment have an on-line store so that those that can't get out or prefer ordering these things from their computers can (there was 9% of people that said that they would prefer to fax in orders).

Even those who reject animal couture are increasingly willing to spend thousands of dollars on drugs for depression, apprehension or pets that just feel sad, as well as psychoanalysis, and even cosmetic surgical procedures which are more prevalent then people think. We might need a Dr. 90210 for pets soon. About 80% of dogs and 50% of cats have been medicated in the past year, according to APPMA, an increase of about 20 percent from 1996. Large drug companies have come up with drugs such as Slentrol for the overweight dog to try to take advantage of this trend, each daily dose will cost several dollars. Reconcile, a new drug for "canine separation anxiety," is another companion animal drug that is looking to become very successful from this new trend. Overall, sales of pet health products has grown about 9% in recent years, more than double the rate in the late 1990s. Many people today have the distinct perception that their pets have human problems and feelings such as separation anxiety and depression. While many veterinarians say these issues are genuine, others say they are simply a way to create more opportunities for generating and selling new animal products. Americans are expected to spend about 50% more on medications to treat their pets this year than they spent five years ago.

With all of this really expensive medication being dispensed a pet owner wants to make sure that their pet will swallow them. There is one cross over segment that Veterinarian Marty Becker of "Good Morning America" fame says is the hottest thing to get your pets to take their expensive medications. It is flavored medications and customized prescriptions. Soon Paris Hilton, the Olsen Twins and Madonna will be getting flavored medications in their pet's choice of flavors such as Angus Beef to Salmon Steak for the pet with the discerning palate (no more hard to do pilling for the pet as well as the pet owner) to transdermal medications that are rubbed into the animals skin (usually the hairless tips of the ears) to get the medication into their bloodstream. Entrepreneurial pharmacists can make up unusual strengths of medication in dosages not commercially made but needed for many small animals. There are even holistic and herbal treatments and foods for those pet owners that want only natural products for their pet. All of these ways to make sure your pet takes their medication as directed really do coddle your pet but at the same time help them recover quicker and more easily. All this pet indulgence can be seen on shows like MTV's- How To Live Like A Celebrity Pet, The Sharon Osbourne Show to Access Hollywood.

With the current fast paced life of most Americans the one stop shopping experience appeals to most (67%); even if it is only one segment that they are interested in. From the research that was done there were very few stores that carry these many diverse products under one roof; couture, goodies, gadgets, organic foods and also customizes pet medications to your pet's liking.

What is your take on the subject, would one store with customized prescriptions that help your animal take their medicine more comfortably and easily, while wearing the latest fashions or animal sporting clothes, and eating organic foods all available under one roof or on one website be a good thing for you, help complete this national study being done across the country. Helping Kids and Animals Recover Quicker

It has been said that out of all the motivations for launching a business, love and fear may be the most powerful.

You might remember me (if you don't Google my name; Kenny Kramm) because you were kind enough to write an article on my company quite some time ago; I am the person that invented flavorings for liquid medications for children to help the medication go down a little easier. When my second daughter Hadley was born her life would thereafter be defined by a long list of debilitating ailments, the most serious of which were continual seizures, a blood-clotting disorder, and cerebral palsy. The company I started was inspired by Hadley because she could not swallow the medication that was so necessary to her survival. The company safely flavored liquid medicines for children. Being a pharmacy technician, my pharmacist father and I developed a system that would allow Hadley to take the medicine she so desperately needed. It worked and made Hadley's life much easier and reduced daily household trauma. At that time I realized that this was a universal problem that many children could use. Word of mouth spread and we began to get children coming from 20 to 30 miles away to have their medications flavored so they could take their medication as prescribed and recover quicker.

As the children in the neighborhood grew up I realized that we were getting more pet prescriptions. We still filled children's prescriptions and the kids loved when somebody would bring in a puppy or another pet to get their prescription filled. This makes for a very fun and unique atmosphere. Even though some of these kid's don't feel so good their eyes light up when they see a pet stroll in.

I realized that the old way of pilling pets was less then adequate. I realized that pets that were once obtained as sidekicks for kids, companion animals were more popular now with older couples whose children had left home, single professionals, and couples who were having children later in life. What connects these different demographic groups is a penchant to having extra time and resources to spend. Today Center Pet Pharmacy compounds pet's medication in many different ways so that pets don't have to struggle with old fashioned ways of giving medication. We have devised some of the latest in compliance solutions and still deliver medications to veterinarians and their clients, exemplifying that service is a real commodity in the lifestyles of today's pet owners.

Center Pharmacy is one of the only pharmacies that has pet luxury items and supplies such as food and grooming products in the front of the store. Pet owners get everything from designer clothes, cat treats to travel bags so they can have their pooch by their side at all times. Customized medications fall right in line with this. This can be anything from flavored medications that pets will lick right off a paper plate to flavored chew tabs to transdermal medication that is absorbed through the skin for pets that can't or won't take anything orally. Over the past 50 years Center Pharmacy has adapted to the many changes and advancements in pet medications and has helped make life easier for pets as well as their owners.

If you choose to use one of these services many times the shipping alone can take 4 or 5 days while your pet's medication stays in a very hot or very cold storage facility. Temperature and storage conditions can affect the efficacy of a medication by the time the client receives it.

I have helped children suffering with everything from common ear infections to those that have life threatening ailments such as leukemia. I feel that I have made a difference in these children's lives and still continue to do so. I also have seen the pain and sufferings endured by companion animals whose owners love them as they would a child and want them to desperately live longer more healthy lives. It was almost a natural evolution that made me go from helping kids to helping man's best friend. It all centers around making sickness a little easier and recovery a little quicker whether it be for children or pets.
